Welcome!

Somewhere between watching It's A Wonderful Life, Pearl Harbor, The Notebook and Captain America I lost my heart to the simple, romantic elegance of 1940's fashion. I have always loved vintage fashion. Maybe it comes with the territory of being a history buff. I find the reason for the fashion just as interesting and fascinating as the styles themselves. I love looking at pictures from that era of women in uniforms, at dances wearing pearls and out and about wearing gloves and that ever so iconic bold red lipstick (love!). I can't help but look at those pictures and think what was the story behind it? Did someone just snap this picture as she turned the corner? Was she a model? A mother? A wife? Who's daughter? What sacrifices was she making to ensure that the soldiers had everything they needed to win the war? I love the stories that fashion tells. Wearing vintage inspired clothing makes me feel like I am a part of a story too.

In my perfect world, with my perfect closet I would be able to seamlessly blend modern and 40's styles and live in a world in which I could fully embrace both. *Knock knock* Oh what's that? It's reality. Poop. I work with kids so I need to be able to kneel on the floor, sit "criss-cross applesauce", run, jump, clean and oh yeah afford other stuff besides clothes. Why is it that the most gorgeous and practical of outfits today are so dang expensive?!?! But every once in a while, Wal-Mart or Target gets a blouse or a dress that makes eye contact with me and says "Hot diggity-dog" all over it.  And that is what brings me here, beginning something I thought I would never do again: a blog. Right now I just want to help, in my own way, anyone who shares my interest in 1940's fashion by posting similar styles when I see them either online, in thrift stores or wherever I may be struck with inspiration with my (charged!) cellphone in hand. I'll also post some of the history I found surrounding the fashion as well as any tutorials I find. So thanks for stopping by and I hope we can be friends!
